So ive been on a bit of a break.

And ive needed it.

Crazy busy with work, as I am a partner in a landscaping business. Been learning how to build websites and its been fun

Theres a new Blue Ginger look coming and a new blog and website. This blog will be cancelled once I have my own on my website. Wont be until 2012.

New products and colours are coming...

Im not going to post images as I will be launching it all at the Buninyong Makers Market in December 2011 on 10th December Saturday.

So come along if you are interested and want to have a peek at my work...

I havent been 100% happy with everything ive made before, but in saying that. i have reached the best I can be now with the new range i have developed. I have been very inspired...

These wallet are a part of Blue Gingers new leather embroidery range. They are made from soft sheep leather and embroidered on the front.

Hand printed red linen is a feature on the back and inside the wallet.

The lining is made from 100% linen

Flower Brooches - Leather

A few more images of the new flower brooch leather range. Again Ill have these up in my shop soon with some better shop front pics.

So each comes seperately and I am selling in my shop in grey, red or blue leathers with a contrasting embroidery colour on top that blends with the blue ginger theme.

Many uses, use on your hats, scarfs, jumpers... They look great on any attire!

So far I have managed to save a few pictures from the photo shoot the other day. I will be re shooting though to make sure Im putting high quality res in my shop. These items will be in my shop over the next week or so.

Im taking it nice and easy...

I hope you like them.

They come as a set of 3 in straight grey or as a multi coloured pack. They are made from leather scraps that I have left over from making my purses and wallets.

So they are made from a soft sheeps leather and there are 3 different bird drawings on each that I have drawn myself and then embroidered onto the front of the brooch.

All 3 could be used together or let your imagination take you to using them on scarfs, hats, shoes and bags!

Just a couple of pictures from the day. I had a different looking sall on the weekend to launch my new leather range.

I did do a photo shoot the other week but apparently the ISO was too high/low or something and the pixels on the photos look bad so Im going to back to re shoot. Bit annoying but any who...

Was a lovely day and great to meet some new faces!

And thats one good looking man I was sitting next too on the day...(who happens to be my husband) lol

Leather brooches pre look

So I just thought Id do a little blog on how I am making my leather embroidery brooches...
So firstly I start with an idea.... maybe some sketches or a drawing. A photo that I took of something. Here is an image I liked from a bunch of flowers my husband bought for me a little while back. I had the idea of somewhow turning the petals into an embroidery piece on either a wallet or brooch... something a little more feminine. I liked how the petals moved around from the centre of the flower, I thought it would be an interesting design.

Moving on..
Here we have the first photo now being edited in my design creative programs to then be transferred onto the embroidery software.

No in the embroidery software and here I can change and edit the sitches and the direction of stitching, the type of stitching. lengths, needle points etc etc..

A leather trial with the flower print. Testing to make sure the stitches are adequate and not messy.

And the final product on leather.... (half made...)

So there you go.

When embroidering there is more to it then what you think. It does take a while. The software I use is very indepth and its like relearning the whole of Adobe creative suite all over again!!!!!

So NO my work is not just 'clipart' that I select off my machine and press go....I know MANY embroidery machines come with 'pre made clipart' (mine does too!) and you can also BUY 'pre made clipart' to use on your own work.... It comes on CD/DVD with a number of different designs others have made for you to use!!!!

TAA DDAA instant embroidery...

BUT if your like me and you want to design it all yourself there is more to it then that.

So now you know where this 'pre made clip art' comes from

Ok so ive been a little quiet....

slap on the hand...

But i had good reason? promise? I mean check out these little babies im bringing out...? Worth the wait huh?

Im going to do some model shots of them and take some better classy pics for my shop so will do this next week. I also have a wider leather embroidery range coming ... its on its way.

I havent wanted to show anything for a while as I have had nothing to show and Im fussy! I dont like taking photos if they are bad ones and the product looks dumb but now I 'likey'.

By the way... does anyone know how to attach my blog posts to my fb busines page?

Just a few images of the new range of tea towels Ive been working on. I had been selling these around Christmas time but havent had the chance to update them in my shop.

They are made out of 100% eco natural linen. Beautiful to use in the kitchen! I love using them all the time.

I have then done an illustration by hand and transferred it into embroidery onto the tea towel.

Welcome new year and new beginnings

HI!
Ok im kinda getting back into it. I still havent sat at my sewing machine since Christmas! The break as been awesome....

But now its Feb and im starting to get fidgety!

First though im going to re style everything including blog, website pages all online stuff etc etc..
Im bored with it and want a change.

Second... i want to start a new range. Starting with a few new tea towel designs (cos they are simple) and some new brooches. I have this new sewing machine and I still havent mastered it yet so I better hope to it..

So stay tuned you will be seeing something new soon to get you inspired..

The animal I would have liked to of seen was a Dodo! You see so many pictures of them, but Ill never see one in my whole life.

Its scary to think that when my own children grow up and they are my age they might never see a real life Numbat that I have seen when I lived in Western Autralia. There are now only 1500 or less left in their whole population. So supporting a fund like WWF, I know that my own kids might one day get to see some of these endangered animals and they WONT become extinct like the many hundreds that already have, and that includes plants as well!

(Dont get me started to talk about our biodiversity of plant species in Australia! Ill be here all day.... we are one lucky country to have such a diverse and rare range of plant life throughout Australia. We are still discovering new plant species regularly! Imagine that.... discovering a new plant in your own back yard!... So it is important that we consider our fragile forests, they wont be around forever if we continue developing the way we are....)

Ladies Vespa and Zebra Wallets

New Vespa and Zebra Ladies Wallets! They are made from 100% thick rough linen 450gsm on front. The inside has card pockets, cash insert, zips, small little coin press stud pockets and clear see through pockets for your photos / license.

The inside is also made from 100% linen, a lighter thread weave that has been thickened and also hardened to help with heavy usage.

The thickness of the wallet is very solid and firm, not floppy like how you see some hand madie types out there. Its professional to the max, something you would see in a very classy designer shop.

Press studs keep it closed, a style which I love! Heavy duty to last a long time.

The wallet has then also been hand printed using a new design type which I am bringing into my range. I am finally hitting where I want to be. Moving on from the cat and mouse...

Handprinted logo through wallet so as I havent had to use my fabric labels, creating more of a personally print mark to my work.

I am thinking i will try and sell them for $75!

Still considering my pricings though, maybe some feedback will help?! A lot of work has gone into making these, many hours in fact... But you know what?! I think it has been worth even minute

To those that dont usually use etsy or madeit.com.au you may find it a little difficult to place an order for my products.

The easiest way if your not computer savvy is to just send me an email to infoblueginger@gmail.com with your enquiry or the products you are interested in.

To place an order through madeit.com.au or etsy.com you will need to create your own account. Very simple, go to the main page and look for SIGN UP and enter your details. Once you have signed up you can then go to my shop pages:

and browse through my products. Kind of like Ebay, click on the product you want and press BUY. You then have the option of either paying right then and there through paypal (youll need your own account to use this as well) or you can send me an email to infoblueginger@gmail.com and ask for direct debit details. i am tired, i have slept on 4 hours the last 2 nights..

im still winding down from my massive market buzz.

i have never spoektn to so many people in my life.....

i have never seen so many cars parked up and down the street in buninyong. I think there were more people around than the last gold king fest??!!!
I had people buying stuff off me from 9.30 am before i had even finished setting up..
Cakes cupcakes went in the first hour. Lucky i ate one quick! taste good
I have permenant smile lines etched into the side of my face becuase i couldnt stop smiling or talking the whole day.
i think i sat down for 1 minute on Saturday in a quiet spot...

Around 11am a coach arrived out of no where in front of the hall dropping off a whole bus load a craft consumers...
It was like the last Tim Burton exhibition in Melbourne i went to where it took me 15 minutes to waddle like a penguin back into my stall that was only located inside the front door.
Im only small.... but it definately was squishy
i hit the first $100 mark by 10.30am
I earnt more that day than one of my full days at the stitches and craft show in melbourne that was from 9am till 5pm!~! and this was only 4 hours.....
none stop...
people...
everywhere....
they didnt stop talking...
we all had to do a shuffly walk...
i think most (or all) stall holders kept skipping over to me with the biggest grins on their faces...
the cafe next door was popping out into the street and the wait was 15-30minutes...
i spoke to the guy this morning and he was very excited and offered me a free cuppa (too RIght... so he should!)
i must admit there were a few things i was a bit upset about... but ill bring that up with the band of market helpers
The council was enquiring
Gold king festival wants to team up...
local businesses want to support more...
more crowds expected next month....
we hardly did any advertising really....????!!!! just a few clever marketing strategies definately pay off
2pm came and everyone was out the dor in 15 minutes
a few of us stayed behind and helped clean up, and i was finished and keys put back by 3pm.
went home...
family was there visiting and didnt stop talking until 5pm
family left...
then both mark and i didnt stop talking about the market until 8pm..
forgot to eat all day
realised i was hungry and ate some food...

then watched a movie to take my mind off it all cos i was on such a high!!

didnt sleep at all last night.... still totally amazed at the crowd...
i dont think anyone has anything to complain about

i still havent stopped talking about it and only just cleaned up my house this afternoon.

Tomorrow im off to see Jen at Cake to tell her the good news...

And hopefully going to have a sleep in and a quiet day tomorrow.

We are looking for stall holders that may be interested in taking part with this market. This market will not clash with the Daylesford Markers Market. Stallholders will need to keep a high standard of presentation at their stall so as to support this market to look ' designer' and price accordingly.

Slowly... the kitchen range is moving

These napkins are made from a lovely linen twill. Made from %100 linen, no blends... it is the real thing. Beautiful texture and feel to the fabric will make any tableware look glam.

Great gift for christmas coming up to use at your Christmas dinner.

Each have been hand cut and then sewn together. With delicate care red embriodery thread has then been sewn bordering each napkin beautifully.

mmm..... Just had to post a blog on Cassies cute paper creations. How I love them!

All handmade and designed by her.

Just got mine delivered the other day and I cant stop touching them and admiring all the packaging. So much effort put in! I opened up my little parcel, then inside that was another parcle all neatly wrapped with a fabric print and trim. Then you open that up and theres more tissue paper wrapping and the most ADORABLE CARDS!! And they even come with recipes and T2 tea bags....awe

I so have a massive thing for thread on paper and fabric textures. Drool....

Hello, here are a few pics from the show.

I loved it. it was a great experience and thanks to all those that came over and had a chat!

I have my folks with me for 2 weeks now so I am on a little break to spend some time with them, but Ill try and post a couple of pics now and then. I should have all my products in my shop in the next couple of days with prices etc.

I loved meeting a whole room of new faces, everyone was really lovely. The Ink and Spindle girls are gorgeous and I love their stuff.... actually I loved everyones. I left with not much money.

Regina Spektor vs Stitches and Craft Show

I missed out on going to see Regina friday night due to unwanted stress levels and a emotional collapse due to over sewing and needle work ARRGGHHH!!

Gosh, I was really looking forward to going to see her and I hope my replacement (Dave) enjoyed the show without me...

This stitches and craft show better be worth it and 10 times better then awesome vocals, cello strings and amazing one handed drum and piano playing. Mark said it was the best performance he had ever been too. yer great. thanks for rubbing it in.

Ive been a bit slow updating over the last week or so but this is the reason why. I dont think i am going to reach what I wanted to get done before the show but I am still VERY HAPPY with my products so far...

I need to stock up on a few different products for the craft show coming up so I have prepared a simple hot water bottle cover pattern that Im going to sell. There will be a few colourways to choose from and possibly another design (if i get the time).

I made one for myself for this winter and its soooo comfty! I hate the feel of a plastic hard rubber hot water bottle but the extra padding of a woolen jumper has now made it my best friend.

I really need to organise myself better. Need to do another Ikea trip.

Im working on small flop stencils today to add to my designs at the show, should be fun to play with.

Im thinking olives and garlic flowers to add to the kitchen range.

And a couple of kitch minimal designs for the giftware.

Also making a few oven mits and other crafty kits.

ok, so yes i have been a little slack keeping weekly posts for the last 2 weeks or so. Been pretty flat out with orders which i am now stopping. i am trying to build up a stock level for the craft market tomorrow but also for The Stitches and Craft Show in Melbourne which is only a few weeks off....

Very nervous, first timer. and stressed!

Just had an awesome easter break to Gold Coast, Qld and spent a few stress relief days at dreamworld and went on all 6 thrill rides! Giant drop was definately an achievement for me. I have never screamed so loud.....

Now back into it.
New stuff coming to the show. Will show off a few pics at a later date. This blog may not be updated weekly over the next couple of weeks as Ill be sewing galore. But will check back when i can.

Friday night and I want to knock off and put my feet up on my couch with my little cat and lovely husband. Will be off to melbourne craft hatch at 8.30am tomorrow if you want to come say hi.

Daylesford Makers Market 6/2/10

Market time! how exciting... Just been sewing, printing, labelling a few products for my market stall. Come and check it out on the 6th Feb.

I love Daylesford, and I am really looking forward to this market. So if your interested in my stuff I would love to see you, or if your not....come up anyway because I am sure you will find some thing around Daylesford or the Makers Market to amuse you.

Just to be bias and promote myself a bit more (well why not? it is my blog after all!!! :) hehe) I will be show casing a range of 50 x 50 scatter cushions and 50 x 30 scatter cushions. They will come in the Dandelion design, Box thorn and Autumn Cherry design.

I will also have a range of mini coin purses made from linen, hemp and lined with organic cotton. AND some fabric button fridge magnets and craft panels/packs.

New Inspiration Materials!

I just had my birthday at the end of last year and I was given some excellent reads. Had to post them up and share my thoughts.

The Crafty Minx by Kelly doust is a great book but I would say it is written for more of a beginner audience. It has some awesome ideas though about reusing heaps of your out dated clothes and recycled materials. Definately would look good on any book shelf.

Experimental textiles by Kim Thittichai is a must have! Its written by a University tutor who talks about how to change and alter the way you look at textiles. through shape, form, colour. How to create your own designs and art works from scratch.

Tricia Guild's Pattern is a really really beautiful book and great for anyone look for some inspiration in colour and pattern. How to decorate your home and make it look HOT! I love the texture of this book and the different papers that have been used as well. It has been well thought out....

There is a lot of info about the history of pattern, geometric patterns, the inca trail, pictorial patterns. Really really really good book! I have been spoilt.

Oh and I was given a Nancy bird bag as well, my fav bag designer! mmmm... expensive but soooo worth it.

Took heaps of pictures end of last year while I was working on a catelogue and images for suppliers. Here is just a small picture of my studio and myself.

I work in my own home studio. It is a home based occupation and I have decided to open my studio to the public next month. It will be displayed as a small boutique shop front where customers will be able to purchase direct from me. All council approved and ready to go apart from signage. More on that later

Fabric covered fridge magnets

Polyester vs Feather Foam Inserts

Just some small info regarding cushion inserts and the best alternative that I think you should choose:

Polyester is a plastic fibre mix which is a cheaper alternative to the feather or down mixture for cushion inserts. I will offer a polyester cushion insert for my cushion range but I dont recommend it as the best option.

You can not wash a polyester cushion insert as it will go lumpy and you wont ever get it back into that plump state. After time the polyester cushion also becomes quite flat and lifeless and wont show off the design as well as what it did when you first bought it. They are a lot lighter and softer, and you sort of dont feel as if they are there when you lean on them.

The feather and foam mix which is a more expensive option is better because of its quality. You will have this insert a longer lifetime then the polyester option. It is firmer and plump and can be moulded easiely back into shape. It can also be washed and the shape wont change, and it wont become flatter with age. The cushion will always look like a new feature wherever it is placed.

So when choosing a cushion insert think first about the quality and how long you will be wanting this cushion displayed in your home.

They are made with 100% linen which is a renewable resource and friendly to the environment. It has been hand screen printed using environmentally friendly inks and hand sewn in my own studio.

This cushion will be available in either polyester stuffing or a feather and foam mix.

I was loving making them and they have come up really good, Im thinking I will also print in black, red and grey tones.

Just bought myself this really good book could Handmade in Melbourne and it features over 200 different Melbourne based artisans. Great Read! really good for those that dont know their way around Melbourne very well (like myself) and gives a bit of insight into the handmade world...

I just did a test print of my new design of Box Thorn in Solid Black. Wow, it looks soo soo good. Will get some photos up by next week.

So I have passed my business course! YAY! Which means my preparations are now going to go into overdrive and a new fabric design is currently under way.

Its a design of a box thorn from Inverleigh, Victoria, a place where Mark spent many of his childhood years.

Ideas for my website are underway. Mark and I are designing it ourselves and I will be keeping it very minimal and clean looking. I have been taking lots of photos of little bits and pieces that I want shown throughout my website. Dont want to say much more.... might spoil the surprise. ;)

I have recently been inspired by Susan Cianciolo, her ideas are awesome and I love the way she has laid out her website. Check it out on http://www.susancianciolo.com/. She is a fashion designer and loves promoting the idea of handmade.

This is a picture from her main page. I am in love with lines, scribble, rough edges, something that shows back to the basics and raw materials.
